Kolukattai




Ingridents:


  • Raw Rice 1 cup

  • Water 2 cups

  • Oil 1tea spoon

  • Salt 1/4 tea spoon

For Filling:



  • Grated fresh coconut 1 cup

  • Grated Jaggery 3/4 cup

  • Cardamom powder - little

  • Roasted gram powder - 1 Table spoon

Method:

1. Soak rice for 3 hours after washing it with that two cups of water. Then grind it in mixie with that water. Don't pour the remaining water. After grinding add the remaining water salt and oil and mix it well in low fire. It will take around 10 to 12 minutes. Allow the dough to become warm. Knead well to a smooth dough using little water to sprinkle if necessary. Apply oil to the hands while kneading. Keep it aside. Cover the dough with wet cloth.

2.For filling : In a kadai in low fire put grated coconut, jaggery, cardamom powder and roasted gram powder and mix well. You can take it in 5 minutes from stove.

3. Preparation of kolukattai: Form the dough into small lemon sized balls. Using your thumb and fore finger, flatten the edges first and slowly shape it like a cup turning and pressing on all sides with equal pressure. Keep a spoon of filling inside and fold it to seal well, pressing down the edges. Arrange it on a greased plate and steam in pressure cooker for 15 minutes. It is suitable for all age group.
